Helicopter Landing Officer (Public Safety) / Landing Zone Coordinator

The Helicopter Landing Officer (Public Safety) Course, sometimes referred to as a Landing Zone Coordinator, is designed to provide awareness knowledge and procedures for emergency services personnel such as Police, Sheriff’s, Fire, Ambulance and Rescue organisations in setting up and managing a helicopter landing at the scene of an incident or accident by day or by night. This course is self-guided and delivered online for the convenience of participants enabling students to undertake training in your own time at your own pace. This course offers a university certificate and CEU’s through Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Worldwide for completion by students.

In circumstances where a medical or rescue helicopter has been called to the scene of an incident or accident it is usually a matter of life or death for those seriously injured or sick. Time is crucial and any assistance that can be given to flightcrews inbound will be of great assistance in reducing the time taken to administer life saving treatment. We are talking minutes; that is all it takes to lose a life that could otherwise be saved. With this in mind, there are no shortcuts. It is also critical that any such guidance and instruction from ground crews has the confidence of the flightcrews attending. This course is a culmination of industry accepted practices and the corrections of some well intentioned but misguided beliefs. Do you have the correct information and procedures to look after everyone involved and manage the landing zone? If you have any doubts, this course is essential to your knowledge in looking after the injured and your colleagues attending the scene.
